Griffin Security Agency Receives

Minority Enterprise Development Award

NEW YORK, NY-The Griffin Security Agency, a private security company specializing in comprehensive risk management and security service programs, was named the Service Firm of the Year at the 22nd Annual Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week in New York City. The event is presented every year by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA).

The purpose of the conference, entitled "Minority Business Growth: Making it Happen," is to provide business development forums on minority business public and private procurement opportunities, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and business profitability. In addition, the conference recognizes the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and the significant contributions of those that encourage minority business development.

The Griffin Security Agency was founded by Michael Smith, President & CEO in 2001. Smith brings 20 years of security industry knowledge and expertise to the company, including nearly as many years in leadership roles. Prior to founding the Griffin Security Agency, Mr. Smith also founded the predecessor to Griffin Security, Wintonclyff Protective Services.

The Minority Business Leadership Awards Luncheon featured a keynote address by the first recipient of the MED Week Pinnacle Business Leadership Award, Byron E. Lewis, as well as remarks from Congressmen Major Owens and Gregory Meeks, and Robert Walsh, Commissioner of the NY City Department of Small Business Services. Other award recipients included Hilton Smith of Turner Construction, Alfred Placeres, NY Federation of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, and Marcial Robiou, of the Business Consortium Fund.
